It has been one of the big things with campaigners and they ran a trial (so to speak, a test run) in Scotland where instead of juries they had "qualified legal professionals" or a panel of judges but the stated aims included getting more convictions and the qualifications seemed to be "being female" and wanting more rape convictions.

It ran a year I think and then was quietly shelved. I remember seeing some brief news saying so but nothing about why or what (presumably) went wrong.
