I couldn't help but notice that Chomsky batted hard for the establishment in response to research on 'deep events' which conspiracy theorists saw as important trigger events or stages of an American coup.

These were the Federal Reserve Act 1913, JFK assassination and 9-11.

The thing which really set alarm bells ringing for me was not Chomsky's position on the mechanics or significance of these events, but that the methodical academic of manafacturing consent was absent and replaced by a dismissive sloganeer with zero apparent interest in the evidence.

I looked for Mockingbird or Operation Mockingbird in the index of Manufacturing Consent- nothing there.
