But when it comes now, to the struggles in the street of Iran, for many they
remain silent. Why? Because they see the Iranian regime in solidarity with
Palestinians and I affirm that solidarity. But that Iranian regime is
repressive. That Iranian regime right now, is engaging in forms of vicious
attack on precious Iranians in the street, everyday Iranians. So, we have to be
able to be morally consistent on the one hand, with solidarity of all of those
folk who are struggling against forms of oppression, be it internally within a
repressive Iranian regime, even as that regime supports the Palestinians.
Yes I understand that but that's no excuse to not be in solidarity with those
people. Yes the Israeli government, yes the American government would like to
manipulate the people's struggle but their suffering is independent, their
suffering has its own logic and life and will never be fully engulfed by the
ugly aims and ends of the Israeli and American government. We have to be morally
in solidarity with whoever struggles, no matter how difficult and seemingly
contradictory it is.
