Today marks a solemn anniversary. On October 7, 2023, Hamas militants killed more than 1,200 people across Israel. One year later, more than 100 hostages taken that day have still not returned home.
The terror attack sparked a new wave of violence across the Middle East. My thoughts are with the families of all the innocent people killed in Israel, Gaza, Lebanon and beyond.
Right now, a lasting peace seems more distant than ever. That cannot be an excuse for inaction by the international community.
More must be done to reduce Iran’s malign influence across the region, while supporting a rapprochement between Israel and the Arab world.
I still believe the two-state solution remains the best path to a lasting peace, one that guarantees both Israel’s long-term security and the right of the Palestinian people to live with dignity.
Today we remember the victims of the October 7th attacks but we also work to ensure they can never happen again.
