Jonan Cook, as brave and honest as the Grazone writers, is moreove something of a thinker. I see This long but readable piece gives due credit to the THE FRAUD by Paul Holden, a book the Guardian and the New Statesman would prefer to suppress than think about
A close friend of mine, through the accidents of life, found himself a paid researcher for a New Labour MP in 1996. He was excited by the idea of a Rapid Rebuttal unit, through which Tory fibs allegedly would be rebutted day by day. In fact Mandelsen created this unit principally to spin against the left of the Labour Party, still an obstacle in his path. Until the election was called, his main victim was Ken Livingstone.
But come the election, Mandelsen surprised his followers by briefly calling off the hunt for Red Ken. "Livingstone can get out the Labour vote" was his very phrase. He knew the the left would always campaign loyally and effectively for a Labour victory
The non-Entity Sturmer is now totally useless to the bosses because he has nobody who can "get out the labour vote". They hope in Gorton the soft left Burnham, Rainer, might be of some use but its largely too late. The Labour Party has finally lost "the Labour vote"
