Or a world dominated by the 'technium' (Kevin Kelly) where the 'singularity' has been reached and technology becomes beyond human control and even understanding.

Technology replaces God. As salvation - something we believe can save us even though we don't understand it. Panopticon replacing an all-seeing God.

Apart from nuclear annihilation, perhaps the only alternative to techno-dysopia is 'collapse' - not just climate and biodiversity collapse but collapse across several sectors all interacting synergistically.
