Mark, I have been around and playing a few instruments in my time...mainly stringed.
6 and 12 stringed guitars, mandolins (folk and Neapolitan), banjo (Irish and Bluegrass) and all kinds of autoharps.
To be honest, with a bit of dedication, you'll get a tune out of them with a bit of practice!
Still play a penny whistle and yes, a Recorder that an X German girlfriend from the 80s bought me and who I still miss painfully.
