July 6 26:
It seems I have successfully re-posted something -a triumph over my cognitive and visual impairments, a victory over the Algorithm who peppers my screen with distracting messages. But even before I became senile I was quite unbelievably gormless at handling anything online.
…
I have learned a great deal from Naomi Kleins subtle books , mainly about the propaganda strategies of the US ruling class, and the resistance movements that have “bubbled up” from below with her support. Even in her casual journalism I find much that she says interesting and true.
But I may well be the only person here who does so. Most lifeboaters may feel they have nothing to learn about the American scene from a Canadian, because they know it all already. Of course, if they know it all already the would have nothing to learn from an American either.
However, I continue to hope that these pages are read by more than the small group of omniscient zealots who pepper them with casual judgments . I come here because I find here, thanks to the postings of Mr Der and others, reposted things I do not find in the Mainstream. Others my thank me for reposting Ms Klein.
The extent to which rightwing populism is a greater evil than corrupted reformism is a question which will not interest persons for whom the main task is not to refute incorrect ideas with a show of logic, but to identify and and
“cancel” incorrect individuals with a show of their associations. For them, the source of error is not class interest but the individual will. There is even a tendency to cancel Chomsky because of the suspicion that having befriended Epstein he is probably a bad man and therefore a source of bad ideas. George Galloway recently sought to cancel Mamdani because of his striking resemblance to (yes) Neil Kinnock.
So Lifeboaters believe Klein should not be platformed here, not because of any specified errors but because they have nothing to learn from her. They don’t need her. But I shall continue to promote this self-confessed Canadian here iff I can. Perhaps to Ms Klein this site would seem like either the autobiography of its most frequent contributor or else a obscure chat room where a very small group of indignant leftists heartily concur with each others unargued opinions . She might not appreciate that I giving her a chance to break out of her “Clique” and reach the broader masses
