A sculptor who spent $100,000 to make a life-sized statue of the late conservative influencer Charlie Kirk said he has no takers for the work, but multiple people have told him that they would like to urinate on it.
Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated in September 2025 while speaking at Utah Valley University.
Sergio Furnari, an Italian-born New York artist, told the Guardian he spent $100,000 of his own money making the statue, which depicts Kirk as he was before he was killed with a single bullet to the neck: sitting down while holding a microphone and wearing a shirt that says "FREEDOM." Furnari said the bulk of the money was spent on steel, resin, and labor.
While working on the statue, Furnari broke his foot after he tripped over a roll of tape in his studio.
He said he believed that some wealthy individual would buy the figure. But, to add insult to literal injury, he has had no takers.
"I was thinking that it was going to resonate with the world, with whoever, but man, people are strange out there," Furnari said. "Meaning like, nobody is really coming up with support, especially financial support. So far I've spent all my money on this."
Instead, he said, he received a flood of messages from people saying they wanted to pee on the statue.
