He left the most vital question unaddressed and unanswered. Why did the West not want the Turkish negotiations to succeed? Presumably the Ukrainians wanted a peaceful resolution but were persuaded, if not forced, by the West to withdraw from negotiations. (Boris Johnson played a pivotal role in flying out to Ukraine, on orders from the White House, and making damn sure there was no chance of a Russian-Ukraine agreement. Johnson is therefore personally responsible for the deaths of the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians and Russians.) I would have liked Mearsheimer to explain the precise reasons why the West were dead against a peaceful resolution. Pressure from US arms manufacturers? Loss of face in capitulating to Russia? What else?
