Sir Mark (Met chief) said while the Met was 4,000 people smaller than it was four years ago, the number of registered sex offenders it was monitoring in the capital stands at 10,800 people and is "growing by 100 every three months".

This comes in the wake of the Levy trial when the Met failed to arrest him for rape and murder after he had assaulted and raped up to a dozen women and sexually assaulted a woman prison officer. The Met claims it didn't have enough evidence to detail him and he was downgraded from "serious sexual offender" to a lesser category.
