Interesting, thx. I can't help thinking that, since manufacturing was moved overseas and the unions weakened/co-opted any prospects for serious challenges to the capitalist status quo have likewise moved to where that work is now being done, ie: China, India, SE Asia, the Philippines etc. There's no real working class here any more, certainly none that could be organised and mobilised on such a vast scale as happened for the general strike. Not that there's nothing that can be done, but just not really in the same way. Maybe it's like underground revolutionaries sabotaging the regime in cities while the guerrillas fight openly out in the countryside. We can still f* with the ruling classes sh!t in solidarity with workers in the so-called 3rd world, doing what we can to limit our participation in their exploitation in the meantime.

Good to be reminded of the mass support for radical action that was possible in this country though. Depressing how limited it is nowadays in comparison.
