It took a budget of £6 Billion to bring you that: have you no appreciation whatsoever?
Reminds me of that day when I was about 4 years old my Aunt excitedly told me she was going to take me to see the Queen.
Imagine that! Well, I was impressed. My Aunt knows the Queen!...I took it of course that she would be on a throne wearing a gold crown and my aunt intended to introduce me, and so it seemed confirmed as I indeed headed off with her togged in my Sunday best blue tweed coat and my little shorts, coloured sandals, short back & sides & even a tiny forelock slicked with just a little bit of my dad's brillcream.
We stopped at some point where I thought we were going to cross the road and for some reason stood there. Other people gathered, A black car came by...a white glove was making an economical two inch signal in the tinted window of the back seat...I asked my Aunt if we could cross the road now, as we might be late to see the queen. Alas of course that was it.
That moving white glove in a dark window was apparently me "seeing the queen".
I was gutted and felt cheated...whilst my obviously Royalist aunt was clearly chagrined by my lack of appreciation...I had made an adult angry somehow so now it was double bad. All in all it was a terrible day, traumatic, which is why I've never forgotten it.
I knew something was my fault but couldn't put my finger on it, but she had let me down badly too: she never even knew the queen!
I always thought of her as a bit of a fraud after that, and this "Queen"? All that fuss about a moving glove...her too.
