I think Ed Sheeran is going to find out that 'not taking a side' over an active genocide (which amounts to choosing the side of the perpetrators) is going to cost him a lot more than a few stadium gigs. He could have called their bluff and gone public to his considerable fanbase, and they probably would have backed down. Proceeding with the gigs after this obvious act of political censorship is stepping over a picket line, just like Radiohead did by playing Tel Aviv. It normalises that kind of strongarm behaviour and makes it more likely to happen in future. We're getting to a stage where fans are going to turn against artists for doing sh!t like this - witness the backlash against stand-up comics for playing at the Riyadh comedy festival. How secure does Sheeran feel that his betrayal of the Palestinians won't come back to haunt him? We'll see...
