It reminds me a bit of the guy who used to lay across the railroad tracks every night to prevent arms being sent to El Salvador, and every might the train would stop until he was taken off the tracks then simply continue. Then one night it didn't stop and it took his legs off. Then continued every night after that.

The people who have achieved something are doctors who went to Gaza, people on the flotillas, etc. For those of us not prepared to do that, whether we commit ritual suicide or instead "do things privately to support" seems somewhat immaterial other than as a litmus test of purity.
