In contrast to most people, Attenborough has spent his life roaming all over the world and has seen how things have changed, for the worse, with his own eyes. If anything, he's way too optimistic about our future chances of adapting to a rapidly changing climate and, not least, the effect this will havr on food production at a time when the world's population will be crashing through 10 billion. Obviously he's a member of an elite group, but that, surely, can't invalidate his observations and conclusions in itself can it? Lots of leading scientific minds are members of an 'elite.' That's in the nature of what they do. I think it's commendable that he's chosen to share his knowledge and speak out about the pressing challenges we face, though, I fear it's too late to avoid our redezvous will harsh reality.
