Brexit... an irrelevant, conceited, piece of political theatre Archived Message

Perhaps it's natural that when the real world seems full of complex and often contradictory problems that don't appear to have easy and good solutions; that people have a tendency to retreat into a cosier world of comforting illusions about a brighter and better future if only we could get 'something' off of our backs and we could be 'free' again. Maybe Arthur or some other saviour will return to save us and help us out of this world and into another one? Promises, promises, promises. Our culture has a long history of such 'fairytales.'

In essence this entire Brexit thing has been a 'holiday' from reality, a retreat from the harsh world we live in, for almost everyone, both on the left and the right, which is why it resembles a religious schism to me, based on faith not facts. #### facts, give us back our 'freedom'!

The Brexiters had a relatively easy task because they could basically say anything and promise anything because they were against now and promising that things were going to be better in the future, which, as everyone knows, has yet to be written. So people could show their dissatisfaction with now and vote for their aspirations for a different and better future, regardless of how they proposed to get from here to there.

Essentially it's not just been irrelevant, but it's been a wasted two or three years, where real politics has been completely sidelined by political posturing and theatre signifying next to nothing, except how degenerate the UK's political culture has become.

Meanwhile, out in the real world, bad things are happening, but almost totally ignored by a nation trapped inside the theatre of the absurd.
