I just had a skim of her website and some of her policy positions. Some good positions on various things but some notable absences as well. I think it is telling that there is no foreign policy section (there is a connected area of "National Security" which does address the war economy and the Defense budget but pretty generally and does not even mention international law), which seems either to be one of her weaknesses or an area she deliberately avoids. This quote from the JTA article you posted does not seem very promising: “I don’t think the ultimate answer will be about settlements or checkpoints,” she said. “The work of the genuine peace builders must be on the level of the heart.” She also said that “until the U.S. returns to where it can be considered an honest broker” by the Palestinians, as well as Israelis, it won’t be able to play a constructive role. To me that sounds like vapid slogans, and avoidance of saying anything critical of Israel. And it's wrong: the ultimate answer will be (in part) about settlements: i.e. ending them. Nothing about the illegal occupations of Palestine and Syria, nothing about Israeli crimes, nothing about ending critical US support for the colonialist project, nothing about the humanitarian emergency in Gaza, etc. A "new blossoming of the Jewish spirit” is all very nice but in the absence of international law, human rights, and basic justice for Palestinians, what will this blossoming amount to besides more occupation, atrocities, hypocrisy and self-deception? But I suppose anyone entering US politics probably regards the issue as a minefield and one they are likely to get blown up in if they enter, not without reason. But it still looks pretty bad to me. Anyway, with the possible exceptions of Gabard and Sanders, she appears to be far better than most establishment candidates on most things, and maybe her campaign will shake things up a bit and give a boost to an anti-neoliberal critique that is starting to penetrate the mainstream. So power to her elbow.
