Another year, another unpublished letter to the Guardian:

    Dear Madam,

Your report on the crisis in Venezuela (Pope says he fears bloodshed as Venezuela's 'suffering' continues, 29 January) makes for very lopsided reading.

You quote EU countries, including Britain, as supporting Donald Trump's attempt at a constitutional coup on the grounds that President Nicolas Maduro had been 'fraudulently elected', yet any minimally objective analysis of Venezuelan democracy would show that this was not the case.

Allegations that Venezuela's security forces have killed 44 people in the past week are attributed to 'activists' - have we not been here before, in Syria? Along with claims by a human rights campaigner that children as young as 12 have been taken into detention, might it not have been judicious to canvass a response from the Venezuelan government to such grave imputations?

    Yours sincerely,

Of course we don't have censorship in Britain.
