I find myself conflicted about what should be the proper, ethical response to those who set off from western countries to fight for IS and who now wish to return. I think we find it difficult to accept that folk born and raised in the UK had no problems throwing in their lot with other folk embracing a murderous ideology. IS's main victims are usually other muslims, those who are of the wrong sect or persuasion or deemed insufficiently rigourous in their religious beliefs and practices.
We just can't believe a young woman would voluntarily join those who murder and sexually enslave others which is why everyone rushes to defend her actions as arising from 'naivety' when, in fact, most pundits know nothing about her; she could be a true believer and have been totally on board with the killing and the raping.
Any crimes she may have committed or have abetted were against the people of Syria and I guess I feel that is where she should account for them.
