I guess in lieu of actual people to pretend to rescue, some dogs will do. A curious piece of propaganda that hopefully doesn't presage an new push from Idlib. Syria's White Helmets were filmed rushing into the wreckage of a building in the northwestern town of Maarat al-Numan, between Homs and Aleppo. The clip shows rescuers scraping back crumbled rock to reveal a tiny puppy's head which splutters from the dust. Working quickly, the team manage to scrape back layers of debris to pull the puppy from the rubble. The emancipated dog is coated in dust and appears shell-shocked after it was almost crushed from fallen rock. One of the worker's can be seen softly stroking the frightened creature while another rescuer pulls a second puppy from the ruins. The team of White Helmets carry the weakened and dust-covered puppies out of the blitzed building to carry them to safety. The group manage to place the puppies of their vehicle - who appear injured from being crushed beneath heavy debris. The Syria Civil Defence, also known as the White Helmets, said the building had collapsed from artillery fire by the country's government forces. ........................ Who are Syria's White Helmets? The White Helmets, officially known as the Syria Civil Defence, is a humanitarian organisation made up of thousdands of volunteers. The group, made up of former teachers, engineers, tailors and firefighters – rush to pull people from the rubble when bombs rain down on Syrian civilians. Known for the white helmets they wear to protect themselves, they have been credited with saving thousands of lives during Syria's civil war. And the organisation has also exposed war crimes through video footage -including a chemical attack. Their work was the subject of an Oscar-winning Netflix documentary and two Nobel peace prize nominations.
