    Thanks John Archived Message

When I first read your headline, I hadn't realised it was ironic. Bernie Sanders would have certainly made a much better President than Trump, but then so would have 300 millions Americans' next door neighbour; but his politics are just a kinder version of the status quo just as Blair was neoliberalism with some softer cushions. It's good to see the anger of many of his supporters to his unfortunate position (Eg see https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1091567/Bernie-Sanders-news-Venezuela-latest-donald-trump-maduro-aid-colombia-border ) Anyway, who does Bernie think he is? He had his go last time and was sunk by his own party. He's a has-been, and is now far too old. He'll be 79 in 2020. I'm not ageist, I'll be that age myself in seven years, but his job is to support socialism in the USA and the best way he can do this is to support a younger person who can muster the energy and the fight and has a powerful and unmovable moral conviction to carry the day and actually achieve something.

But it will be events. Will US capitalism survive the next two years? If not, it seems more likely that the US will swing even more deeply into fascism. I'd like to believe this won't happen, that such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and newer Democratic forces can achieve something before the curtains come down on democracy but the forces stacked against them are truly formidable.
