it's the product of the sperm and the egg (like you) as you well know.
I know sperm & eggs are both alive. I know reproduction is one big wasteful messy continuum & a fertilised egg is no more alive than either. I know Nature is a pragmatist: I know a mother may reabsorb her foetus...but is it cannibalism? drink a glass or two of wine and does a heavy period becomes manslaughter? knowingly be pregnant and do so then its deliberate attempted murder? So, no hypocrisy on my part unless masturbation or ovulation make mass murder but your approach makes hypocrisy a must and places a burden of supposed criminality onto women alone, as the recent moves to make abortion actually punishable with the death penalty in the US make clear:
Human tradition is like nature itself on reproduction, pragmatic. It has been a tradition that personhood and rights began at the quickening: the period of gestation where life was viable outside the womb. Thousands of years of human experience seems a fairly sensible guideline to me, and that's about where it still stands and stands for me too. So if I'm a hypocrite in your view then too bad: I have near the entire history of humanity as moral company on the issue.
