Just when you think establishment media smears have scraped the very bottom of the barrel, they continue to surprise. If nothing else, it reveals how panicked the British elite are that they are appealing to discredited spooks like Dearlove to tell the people whom they can and can't have in government. His threats are similar to those of the unnamed general who told the Sunday times wrt a Corbyn government, The Army just wouldn’t stand for it. The general staff would not allow a prime minister to jeopardise the security of this country and I think people would use whatever means possible, fair or foul to prevent that. You can’t put a maverick in charge of a country’s security. There would be mass resignations at all levels and you would face the very real prospect of an event which would effectively be a mutiny.” As the Conservatives implode and the Blairite splinter group drowns in its own hypocrisy and ineptitude, the establishment is getting very nervous, and is pulling out all the stops. It's a bare-knuckle fight now: No smear too mendacious or grotesque, no mudslinging too malicious. (as a side note, i thought it was ironic that Hearst introduces his piece with a reference to McCarthy and yet includes a number of gratuitous digs at Putin that are little more than sops thrown to the prevailing neo-McCarthyism, e.g. "So Putin, who is short sighted but too vain to wear contact lenses..." I thought people often do wear contact lenses out of vanity...i.e. because they don't like the way they look in glasses. But still a very good piece, and kudos to him for it)
