Thanks that was really good thanks Jonny. Nice to see all participants listenning to one another, showing real interest, even where outlooks diverged. Personally I see the breakdown of traditional norms in the republic as part of the breakdown of traditional aspirations there: to economic independence and indigenous national revival. So-called progressive changes offer a feel-good patina enough to suppress general despair. (Not that the Catholic church is / was not corrupt to the core). That the Shinners are behind Remain so ardently (it seems) owes one part to underlying despair ("without the UK we're even more ####ed!") but also I think a forgetting of what matters that tends to come hand in hand with the progressive-humanist religion. You can't now ask: Is it really ALL about money ( - or - short-term prosperity)? But I speak as an outsider. Best wishes.
