"Dopesick" by Beth Macy, "American Overdose" by Chris McGreal, "Dreamland" by Sam Quinones and "Pain Killer" by Barry Meier. The first three cover a lot of the same ground but they are all excellent. The last book is aimed directly at Purdue Pharma, the makers of Oxycontin which was the main mechanism for turning a generation of Americans into skag zombies. In 2016 64,000 Americans died of drug overdoses. That's a pretty crazy number. All so the Sackler's could buy more mansions. While I agree with the idea that a lot of people's reality is so shitty thanks to the system they live in that they prefer to play Fentanyl roulette , I'm not believing the neoliberal slant from the original article. Not giving them a repeat scrip for Oxy 120s for a sprained ankle might have been more help. Here's more about the Sacklers and their "philanthropy" https://www.dumptheguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/feb/16/sackler-family-blood-money-disgrace-museums
