This week could see an almost total meltdown of the political system in Westminster... which has consequences going forward. The Conservatives are now, effectively, two parties, much more split than labour are over Corbyn. Opening up that Conservative split into a chasm is in Labour's interests. May handled this badly from the beginning. The Conservatives, under Cameron, used the referendum in relation to internal Tory politics, but instead of cementing Cameron's liberal, centerist line, he was destroyed and the split became even worse. After the referendum, May's first priority was to heal the wounds. This didn't work. Instead of reaching out to the other parties and making a national compromise over what the British wanted from Brexit, she ignored them, because this would have opened up split in the Tory ranks again, so, instead she attempted the impossible. To ignore the opposition whilst giving ground to her own internal opposition, only this only 'united' both sets of opposition to her, which led to her downfall.
