What I feel and have observed, is that over the last few decades, the UK's political culture and the wider culture, has followed the US model and become increasingly... infantalised, and now the consequences of this process of 'dumbing down' are coming home to roost, with a vengeance. 'Ordinary people' appear extraordinarily ill-informed about a whole range of issues and are therefore easyly moved and are pry to political charlatans and populist demagogues selling crass, misleading and symplistic 'solutions' to highly complex and difficult 'problems', Brexit being only one of them. The degeneration of public discourse and politics, hasn't been helped by a media that's the pits of the world. A media that's there to protect the powerful from scrutiny and criticism and has promoted mediocrity and incompetence, rewarded it in fact.
