And ANOTHER thing wrong with the article . . . Archived Message

It is one thing to be children of God, and an entirely different thing to be God or as God, or apart from God. The Pharisees and scribes, who were faithless in that regard, and enemies of Jesus, were hellbent on testing and trapping Jesus. The quote you provide, like that other one about rendering unto Caesar what is Caesar's, are instances of Christ outsmarting his potential captors. Small 'g' and plural 'gods' is a misleading translation from the original Hebrew. Good try, Kenny boy, but no cigar. Another thing wrong with the Caitlin article is that bit about evolving to become people who can live without conflict. Gasp! You can see her proud little victory smirk as she typed that, like, 'Ooh, I'm so clever and so good.' No, Caitlin, this may be a nihilistic age, people certainly may be bored, and restless, and petty . . . but nothing changes the fact that our central duty and purpose is to acquire character and grace, i.e., to be able to handle conflict, to rise to a challenge, to love one's enemies and to be able to broker peace in the harshest circumstances. Absence of conflict is not merely "boring". Absence of conflict is death. Wherever there are two or more people, no matter how enlightened, no matter what economic system or culture, there is challenge, there is conflict. We need to learn how to deal with reality and relationships maturely, honestly and effectively, rather than dream and scheme towards impossible Utopias which can only be achieved (and only partly and superficially at that) by deception, manipulation, denial, and totalitarianism. Deception is a hell of a racket. The bigger the deception bubble, the harder they burst. And we are in one hell of a deception bubble. I'm sure Caitlin, bless her heart, means well. She correctly identifies a lot of the lies and corruption in this world. But like so many idealists and ideologues, she fails to understand the nature of it, which leads to impossible dreams and fatal medicine. turtleman
