I put these in fred's original post below, but might as well have them all in one place: For some deatailed (and sometimes way technical) discussion here are some links: This is the Lion Air crash that was the first major incident with the 8 max and the MCAS system: https://www.pprune.org/rumours-news/614857-indonesian-aircraft-missing-off-jakarta-4.html This is the thread at the same site on the Ethiopian crash: https://www.pprune.org/rumours-news/619272-ethiopian-airliner-down-africa.html and this is about the software fixes for the MCAS that have been delayed: https://www.pprune.org/rumours-news/618252-boeing-737-max-software-fixes-due-lion-air-crash-delayed.html All links to pprune which is full of pilots, ATC's and a couple of ACI's now and again, so their discussions get quite techy but it's a good place to learn the details of what's going on. Boeing are now trying to save face after being forced to ground the MAX fleet worldwide (although it was only the US and Canada essentially that hand't already done so). If the orange one hadn't given an executive order they would have carried on protesting it was airworthy. They have done a real botch job with the MCAS and they could, and if the Ehtiopian crash has similar probable causes as the Lion Air one, be facing some major shitstorm. I'm sure they will put even more pressure than normal on the ACI's in those two crash investigations to blame pilot error, the airline's not training enough hours before certification, etc. but if they are both caused by trim runaway through the MCAS then they are in deep shit. Also, worth watching the video posted earlier if you haven't seen it. The last fifteen minutes or so is a pretty comprehensive destruction of Boeing and their ethics. People building passenger planes while high, Boeing asking for cuts in safety procedures to keep to production schedules, etc. Then the final interview makes them look like the shifty, anything for an extra dollar, corporate w.hores that they are.
