There's an awful lot here that's both interesting and exaggerated, but that's probably the price for communicating.

During the English Civil War period, there was a lot of debate about the concept of religious tolerance and whether or not this was a good thing or not. Now, to us, 'tolerance' only has a positive meaning. People in the 1640's didn't use the word like we do. For many of them 'tolerance' was perceived as a threat and dangerous, to what the majority accepted as right and true religious beliefs and undermining the 'good' with the 'bad' and distabilising the Church and society, leading to disorder, chaos and bloodshed down the road.

I think it's disturbing that the two lynch-pin nations of the West are now so riven with 'unecessary' strife and the barricades are going up and the trenches are being dug all over the place. Schisms within families about 'irrelvant' though highly symbolic 'religious dogmas' that, as with the Civil War, can have terrible consequences going forward.

Like in a city where I used to live in South Carolina, where traditions and history were very much part of the cuture of the South. There, an old statue has been taken down in the dead of night. It's of a Confederate soldier who symbolises for many people, different things. For many people the soldier symbolises 'duty' 'honour' and 'sacrifice.' Defending one's country against foreign invasion and subjugation. For others, suddenly, the statue symbolises the exact opposite, 'oppression' slavery and white supremacy. The tragic irony of this 'New Civil War' being fought on the symbolic plane, for now, isn't lost on lots of people I know there.
