Since we told them 15 years ago we would be in touch again if we ever required a TV licence we have received well over 100 threatening letters (they send one every month, there are hiatuses when we move house but they do catch up). The tone of these letters becomes 'stronger', that is, nastier, with threats of opening an investigation, helpful advice about what you will need to bring to court and, finally, extra windows in the envelope presumably to let the postie know you're in trouble. (We particularly appreciate the implications of that last one. Nice.) The process then reverts to the beginning with letter #1. We have had two visits - we just tell them to clear off (ever so politely) and they do. 'Enquiry Officers' appear to be appointed on the strength of their submissiveness. Though we share Keith Lindsay-Cameron's sentiments we think its probably pointless writing to the BBC because the collection of licence fee money is outsourced to Capita, whose annual cut (of licence payers' money!!) is about £60m.
