Blimey, this is getting deep .. :-)

I would say its not so much whether the country is hot, its whether it has tropical diseases and poor infrastructure to deal with them.

Coming from the outside, you likely have no natural immunity to such diseases. On the other hand, for the most important tropical disease, malaria, there is no vaccine. By the way, there is essentially no vaccine to ebola either.

Since you are not traveling, I probably don't need to feel obliged to write much more than the above :-)

In general there are three things to think about: (a) the mortality rate of the disease, (b) the transmissibility of the diesase (your likelihood of getting it if around infected people), (c) the efficacy [and safety] of the vaccine.

Ebola has high mortality but very low transmissibility

Influenza and measles have very high transmissibility but low mortality except in children and old people. Vaccines don't work very well in old people, but they do in children. In children the issue is lack of prior exposure, in old people it is an aged immune system.

If there were more definitive answers, I would have mentioned them.

I think critics and whistleblowers have an extremely valuable role to play - its the crux of quality science. Look what happened to Boeing, talking of junk products and no whistleblowers in this case. But also look at how many levels of failure there are with an aircraft: From catastrophic failure downwards. Do you see anybody not flying on any aircraft becaue of the Ma8 issues? It is more cut and dried with an aircraft because its pure engineering and pure physics. We are not there yet with biology, but the same principles apply: There are many levels from saftey concerns to possible risks, to known risks, known dangers, etc. All you can do is look at all the factors that apply to you and your environment, then take a decision on whether to specifically avoid the boeing max8.

    Best regards, Shyaku
