“the British government must extradite Assange to Sweden.” JC didn't actually say any such thing - Archived Message

Look at the clip and see for yourself. What he actually says in his usual balanced way is that all matters should have due process of law. He's not actually endorsing extradition to anywhere, for any charge.

This could just as easily be interpreted as JC understanding that an attempt is being made to play him, and being the experienced veteran that he is, he's refusing to be played, whilst still sticking - quite rightly - to his guns of lifelong basic principles. If - big if - there were a resurrected charge of sexual offence against Julian, he should answer it - because of course he can, and has always been willing to do so. There's no credible case against him. And the refusal to extradite to Sweden can stand, because JA can answer all the - supposed - charges wherever he is, and has always offered to do so. Sweden already has a track-record of agreeing to interview people in other countries, regarding legal cases in Sweden. They could do the same here, and any actually-principled PM could insist that there will be no extradition.

I've come to suspect that JC, or someone near to his ear, understands very realistically the fragile, crumbly, and very narrow path available to them towards Downing Street, and sees it as an essential requirement to stay on that path: a strategic key towards being able to achieve a few other good things whilst in government, against the massed opposition of the USuk gics and their bourgeois creatures and useful idiots. These few lastingly-useful things could include denying the Swamp gics the chance to get their claws on Julian. In fact, it could be the best chance he's got, and of course it depends absolutely on JC getting into Downing Street. If he is indeed playing this longer hand, then his response on the clip is a perfect stonewall against any attempt to play him.
