Sorry, getting an error message now when I try to access that manufacturing greta article. I skim read it before and it didn't seem to mention Greta's disavowal of the NGO that used her name & image - see here: https://www.facebook.com/732846497083173/posts/767646880269801/

@Rhis, no worries about adversariality (if not a real word then should be!). I agree that we have to be wary about NGO capture and appropriation or dilution by mainstream political forces. I remember that Arundhati Roy speech and she was spot on, as ever. But racketeering on the back of XR? Not seen persuasive evidence yet. It might be useful to remember that one of the group's first actions was actually in the offices of Greenpeace, criticising their failure to galvanise a mass movement:

'We understand that legitimacy brings privilege and opportunity, that funding keeps food on the table and the rent paid so that people can work. We understand that positivity used to be a call to action. But it does not work when faced with ecological and societal collapse. The outlook is bleak and we all know it.

Humanity is failing to grasp a clear perspective. The IPCC fails us, our government fails us, the NGOs have failed us, and business as usual is no longer an option, least of all for our movement.

We all need to come together and consider what could be done differently. Major social justice battles of great magnitude have been won by ordinary people doing extraordinary things. In living memory fascism have been defeated, dictators have been toppled, and women and people of colour have won equal rights to vote and to work. All of these things seemed insurmountable before they were proven not to be, by people deciding to undertake mass civil disobedience.

With this in mind, we suggest it is time to ask the ordinary people to step up. To make extraordinary choices in the face of our life or death situation.'

Further perusal of their FAQ might answer more questions about funding, background, class consciousness etc: https://rebellion.earth/the-truth/faqs/

    cheers for now,
    I
