>Sorry if this sounds a bit cynical, but does anyone actually believe this declaration by the UK Parliament represents anything more than political posturing? The declaration is a good thing. It can be used against the parliament to force action. They can be held to its implications - but that needs further and rapidly growing activist pressure, of course. New activists need to be strongly encouraged - and not sent away dispirited by cynical, paranoid lefties. That's crucial. We can be sbsolutely certain that XR is thoroughly infiltrated by the security services, just like any other social movement or political party out there. That's perfectly normal - and John Jordan, who wrote the piece I posted above, could tell you all about how that works having had direct experience of it himself, with activists subsequently revealed to be Scotland Yard police officers. But there are positive ways of dealing with all that, if we are determined. >I would guess it has far more to do with an incipient plan to line up the Greens as a key progressive vote-splitter at the next general election. The vote-splitting accusation was also levelled at Jill Stein (US Greens), before the 2016 elections, that she was taking support away from Sanders. The presence of the Green party in the elections should prod the Labour Party to take a deeper approach to ecological issues to win back those voters. That's more pressure in the right direction.
