Good left-wing, humane, liberal stuff. What characterises the Guardian, or at least what characterises its own opinion of itself.

This is approximately what I posted; it appeared on the comments page. I thought I had kept a copy, but I can't find it. A short while later I checked the comments, not there, and no acknowledgement it ever was.

So The Guardian finds the UK's dismissal of the UN general assembly overwhelming vote against this country should be a "wake up " call for the UK to start keeping to its moral and ethical obligations.

Interesting that you can write a whole opinion piece about the UK's ignoring international norms, without once mentioning Julian Assange and the UK's treatment of him. The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention have now twice forcefully told the UK that Julian Assange is being held illegally, being deprived of his rights, that he should be allowed his freedom and compensated. This ruling has been derided by successive ministers in this Tory government.

So in what way is this UN decision, which is advisory, more important than the UN Committee's opinion, which the UK has actually signed up to? Where was the opinion piece then that the UK needs to "wake up" in regard to Assange? But there you are, The Guardian, having profited mightily from the bravery of Assange, has since lost no chance to put the boot in repeatedly. The hypocrisy and double standards are flagrant.
