What facinates me is the subtle processes that allow liberals working for the BBC and the Guardian, to live with themselves and not recoil in horror from their own reflections; whilst they do terrible things, like betraying Assange to his enemies. I think it's because of the historic role of the educated middle class in relation to the state/corporations; and that role is primarily one of 'service' and 'protection', defending the power structure of the state. This is why, as soon as the state goes to war, they drop their objections and rally around the flag.
