In contrast, a journalist who made a tiny mistake in an article covering something linked to the actions of the state or powerful actors, who have their work pulled apart and scrutinised down to every dot and comma for accuracy and... Truth; and the result, if they were in error, would be both dramatic, brutal and withou mercy. They would vertually be destroyed, broken on the wheel.

Whilst writers at the Guardian and elsewhere, can literally fabricate entire stories, create entire edifices of bold fake news and get away with it scott free, with no negative consequences at all and the public kept completely in the dark about their loathsome activities, the name, Luke Harding springs to mind here.

The key is whether the target, is powerful or not, or if the target is designated an adversary, not, one of us, or a partisan. This ghastly trend and attitude, undermines so much in public life and the media, is so terrible damaging, that it's difficult to know where to begin.
