The last time Tories gave the rich this much was under Thatcher when she dropped the top rate of tax Archived Message

from 98% to 40%, but even she did this over 9 years! The Tories like to talk about Labour as being the party of high taxes - but throughout the Tory years of the 50's and 60's the top rate of tax was around 90%. The really wealthy didn't worry because their accountants and lawyers would have set up special trusts in the Channel Islands to avoid all UK tax on their investments. Only when these loopholes were gradually closed in the 70's did the wealthy begin to groan over the high rates of tax and low and behold we get Thatchler, Major and Bliar! ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_taxation_in_the_United_Kingdom#Income_tax_2 ) So this latest Johnson proposed giveaway to the wealthy is of historic levels when the lower paid and unemployed get nothing. Just to rub the salt into the wound the £6,000 to an £80,000'er ( who may just be living off their investment millions ) is over 1.5 times the annual unemployment benefit paid to a single person, whose assets are SFA! We're talking Dinosaur piles here! cheers
