They embrace 'authority', which in this case is, basically, the powerful states of the West and accept their narrative about events in Syria... whole. The idea that there was no 'Revolution' in Syria and there is no 'civil war', but, rather, a foreign Islamist invasion armed and financed by the West and its Gulf allies; requires such a shift of world-view, that for Guardian liberals, this is simply an impossibility. The limited freedom to question and criticise that existed in the period prior to the attack on Iraq, has been severely limited. I don't see it changing any time soon.
