You can filter passenger vessels and see just how crowded the seas around Europe are, these be cruising vessels and ferries. Filter cargo vessel and view the constant stream of massive container vessels from the Suez Canal to western Europe or zoom out to see the whole Earth. This shipping map reveals just how truly parasitical and unsustainable our globalised economy now is. Now add in the aircraft tracker map, as here https://www.flightradar24.com/40.36,12.34/4 Then the overwhelming and truly frightening impression is one of - what the hell are we doing? Huge lines of ants, never ceasing, never sleeping, worker ants, some with 25,000 tonne burdens of containers, and some with 300,000 tonnes of oil or some carrying thousand of more superior ants to disgorge themselves on our beautiful place, and crap on them, but some ants are particularly privileged and they can carry themselves around at 600 mph over all this productive effort and think just how clever they are. The whole planet is has now become our ant heap, our home for 7 billion ants. Our very own super-colony. The fundamental difference is that ordinary ants know that the first principal of survival is not to foul one's own nest. |
