"If I had a patient who'd recently been in Africa and they developed a nasty fever, I'd be pretty certain they had caught malaria, and I'd be doing everything I could to investigate it, and if they were seriously ill, I'd treat it as such even if the definitive diagnosis were still pending. That's how we should be treating global warming." -Which would be a wise course of action and recommended, but you know as well as I do that you couldn't definitively say "he had Malaria". All you could say was that this was in your professional opinion, "likely". The good news is (if there is any at all in perspective) that up until a few years ago the public could be bamboozled on the issue, but recent climatic events have I think created a stark clarity in accepting climate change as a prognosis whatever the weatherman pronounces. The bad news is that the public still feels utterly powerless on the issue and thus damned anyway.
