Hi Ken An 'entirely unself-conscious acceptance' is not the same thing as a 'claim'. Mind you, surely joining an organisation or running a blog whose name begins with 'Jews' indicates a desire to distinguish yourself from the goyim. Tony considers himself to be Jewish but not religious. So he is happy to arrogate the moral authority of the Jewish religion to inform his activism and his espousal of a Jewish identity presumably informs his own witch-hunting work in Brighton. At the same time his blog is often brilliant, his research and sheer bloody hard work are admirable - and its possible that, like many others, he wouldn't be putting in the hours & effort & skill if it wasn't for his acceptance of his particular cultural inheritance. So there is a good argument to be made in favour of this stance but it does mean that the Zionist (and Nazi) definition of Jewishness as genetically determined (except for Donald Trump's daughter obvs.) is conceded. This state of affairs was warned against by the British Board of Deputies over a hundred years ago when it vehemently opposed Zionism. They were on to something there. The struggle for Palestinian rights is an anti-colonial one and no religious grouping has any more right than any other to be heard in the argument. Arguments in favour of Israel are, slyly, given more weight by the media when made by Jews (however self-identified!). Doesn't this mean we have to get identity politics ditched, not rely in vain on the media giving equal weight to, say, Jews for Justice for Palestinians?
