Linked this article to a journalist group and got told in short order by a Dutch journalist: "No support from me for this creep!"

While Melzer's article is powerful, I do wonder why Newsweek (apparently pretty much the mouthpiece of one CIA faction?) chooses to publish it? Newsweek has *not* published more explanatory, fact-dense articles on the Assange case from Cook, Pilger, Consortium News, Johnstone.

Melzer's article doesn't detail some of the very specific legal abuses which might open eyes: it offers a more generalised overview.

Melzer's article doesn't emphasise that Assange is a journalist and a publisher (which I believe is important for his defence) - it firmly paints Assange as a 'dissident'. Does 'a dissident' have the same rights as a 'journalist-publisher'? How does the 'dissident' label work for Assange?

Not disparaging Melzer's good article - but wondering why it's more acceptable to NEWSWEEK than any number of better-detailed articles on the subject?
