A similar thought struck me, CJ. Or rather two thoughts. I wondered why we saw or heard no aircraft in the sky. You'd have thought that a jet fighter or bomber delivering high explosives would have been seen or heard during the duration of the film -- which would have seemed to be at least a couple of hours -- or even longer? There was never any sign at all of aircraft. The second thought was that the WH must have very superior and advanced surveillance systems because the people on the ground were being told (by radio?) that an attack was imminent and to clear out. So their HQ presumably was tracking Russian aircraft and knew where they were heading and that they were about to offload their bombs/rockets .... That's pretty impressive intelligence and communications set-up for a ground-level group in a war-torn country which is operating at the most basic level of "rescue" and "self-defence" with clapped-out vans as so-called ambulances. And on a further note, I don't think the grieving friend of the driver who was killed would win an Oscar for best supporting role. I don't mean to be flippant, but his behaviour (and the filming) seemed highly dubious to me. |
