    on its side). Not that Gail thinks that climate shift isn't a major problem; she's not reality-disconnected at all! It's just that CO2 emissions and climate shift make up just one of the elephants. And we have no option but to consider them all, in synergy, if we're to come to any actually-useful conclusions on what we should do to face them (there's no longer any total escape possible; what can't be cured must be endured).

    Given the matters which Gail sketches, is UBI ever going to be a practical possibility. I doubt it, not at this late stage in - alleged - growthforever; much as I quite like the idea of UBI. Getting old enough to draw a modest pension has transformed my life. I could have lived in this low-demand, voluntary-near-poverty way all my life it I'd had that income guaranteed from 18 on; could have done a lot less crap work and a lot more actually-worthwhile things, and kept my carbon-footprint smaller than it has been, over the whole life-span (even factoring in all the guerrilla tree-planting that I've done, and still do...).
