Whatever the doubts on the veracity of the story, they were brave men, not forgetting the crews on the Russians' Soyus, the International Space Station and so on. I once met Helen Sharman, the first British female in space and spoke to her briefly. A modest person. Showing my age, I admit to watching the original moon landing broadcasts on TV, a b/w 12" portable. It had a red plastic case, a built in telescopic V aerial where you had to extend the arms and twiddle them to get a signal. It had poor sound. My boss at the time also had a portable TV which he brought in to work and we all watched subsequent coverage. Colour TV came to the UK in 1967. Commercial TV arrived in 1955. I feel old! |
