    Two ways to look at this. Yes locals may be trying to squeeze more money out of tourists. On the other hand the locals are finding the problems of mass tourism beginning to outweigh the profit. Having tourists sit on the Rialto Steps is at once harmless, but also a real nuisance as people get in the way of the hoards of the fellow tourists. That one tourist is harmlesss enough, like a drop of rain, but a million tourists is a veritable destructive flood. . Venice is supposed to be a living city, not an amusement park. So this article is just a bit slanted. there is another side to this story. However, the deliberate restriction of seating areas in public spaces, airports etc is cynical and abusive - similarly with the injections of not being able to bring you own food to sporting events. That's rampant and antisocial commercialisation. And greed, agree.
