Good points all...this is also why it is inevitable that an attempt will be made to create an artificial magnetosphere on Mars...maybe not as far fetched as it sounds...a feedback system from surface stations and geostats might also be able to tap in to the fields in the core (now dormant), and, "reignite" them.....such subtle mechanisms may allow a solar panel based system to create a useable magnetosphere..I'm not saying that Mars will become Earth-like...but some forms of sustainable zoo and phyto-flora may be possible....in the (poss. far), future..
